Sunderland Landlords In Effort To Raise Standards

Sunderland City Council is working in partnership with private landlords to raise standards for tenants living in rented accommodation.

The Sunderland Accredited Landlords Scheme recognises and encourages the important role of private landlords within the city. Its aim is to drive up standards in the private rented sector through cooperation and consultation.

The voluntary scheme launched this month after extensive consultation with private rental sector, and already 20 landlords have signed up.

Councillor Graeme Miller said: "The Sunderland Accredited Landlord scheme is a voluntary scheme which helps us work in partnership with landlords to raise standards within the private rented sector.

"Working together we have put the scheme in place, talking to landlords to identify their concerns and then deciding how we can help best address them through practical advice and support.

"Private landlords offer 14,000 homes to families in Sunderland, so it is important that the City Council and landlords work together to ensure private rented accommodation within our communities is as good as it can be."
