Cost of winter weather damage to property tops £600m a year

According to research by M&S Money, the cost of damage to both insured and uninsured residential properties caused by severe winter weather is £600 million a year.

Furthermore, it says that property insurance claims from owner-occupiers have risen by 200 per cent during winter over the last three years due to a rise in severe weather in the UK.

Landlords urged to improve properties through the Green Deal

Landlords have been urged to use the government's Green Deal scheme to make their properties more energy efficient and lower bills for their tenants.

This week saw the government launch the consultation phase for the scheme - which it hopes will come into effect next October.

Under the proposals, property owners, including landlords, will be able to access an interest-free loan to carry out energy-saving improvements to their properties.
